PN: Understanding facilitates remembering

Understanding means connecting new information to previous information in a meaningful way.

In other words you can not understand something unless it has proper context to which you can relate it.

The fact of connecting new knowledge to the existing one fixes the new information. It becomes a part of your brain structure, and therefore can not be forgotten anymore. Conversely, it can be retrieved if triggered with the right cues, which relate to the contexts in which is embedded.

Relevant notes:

PN: Writing is the best facilitator for thinking: The best way to understand a concept is to write it down. This will show you the gaps of your understanding and compel you to express it in a clearer way.
