P: We evolved for Mediocristan

Reference::

Mediocristan is the reality we evolved for. For most of our history, work and results, inputs and outputs, were closely related. You were thirsty; drinking brought you adequate satisfaction. You were building a hut; more work led to more apparent results, so your mood was propped up by visible feedback. In other words, what was relevant was the sensational. (For this reason we are so attracted to sensory and emotionally-loaded information. Unfortunately, in our world what's most relevant becomes more and more boring and non-sensational.

Also for this reason, we are retarded in seeing abstraction.)

Extremistan is new to us. It appeared together with our ability to think abstractly (link to sapiens) and was magnified with information technologies such as books, radio, television, and the internet.

Our bodies think we're in the Mediocristan when in fact a lot of our life resides in Extremistan. This fucks us up because of lack of validation and feedback our bodies are used to. For example, if you study every day, you expect to learn something in proportion to your studies. If you feel that you are not going anywhere, your emotions will cause you to become demoralized. That is why getting rich is so hard. It requires delaying gratification (link nsd), taking the long term view (link). How can you make it easier?

Therefore when you live in an Extermistan environment you need to make sure you're supplying yourself with Mediocristan activities where you can satisfy your natural needs. P: Become happy in the modern environment
