P: The ability to learn is the single most important skill in the 21st

The ability to learn effectively is arguably the most important skill in the 21st century and in life in general.

Why?

Because the world is changing so rapidly that industries where you can make money open up for 3-8 years and then they disappear. Although they're up so shortly, you can get rich very quickly, provided you learn quickly (usually, the quicker you enter, the higher the leverage). The 4 year college and then 30 years in the job tactic is already obsolete. The ship of opportunity harbors for way shorter than before but if you manage to get onto it, you can count for incredible returns.

Why is our world becoming like that?

First, because of the increasingly Extremistan nature of our world, pure work ethic isn't enough. The times where more input (work) resulted in a similar increase in output (money) are mostly gone. Now, what you're working on and with whom are way more important that how much you work. If you work on the right stuff intensely for a couple of months, you can get disproportionate returns, like a writer becoming a millionaire, a programmer selling his product for millions, a comedian selling out stadiums, an investor collecting dividends worth thousands on a monthly basis.

So, today's world offers massive opportunities which can result in massive payoffs if you manage to catch them.

To capitalize on all of these things you need to learn quickly and effectively. You have to be ready to jump on the ship of opportunity once it appears and survive on it.

How then do you learn to learn quickly?

If the subject is complex, first get the hold of the subject by building basic mental representations through understanding the basics, elaboration, and spaced repetition (or other forms of drilling).

Once you have a basic grasp of a subject you can proceed to one of the most effective learning method which is doing.

So, the ability to learn effectively is imperative to succeeding in todays world, however, there are two other components that are equally important.

First, you have to know how to increase the number of potential ships of opportunity that anchor in your port. And second, you must know which ones to choose. TK P: Managing opportunities in the 21st century

As I mentioned, todays world offers unprecedented opportunities both in quantity and potential payoff.

On on hand, you should hone in on this situation and open yourself up to as many opportunities as you can. On the other hand, if you say YES to every opportunity you'll spread yourself too thin and won't capitalize on anything.

What to do then?

Alternate between both in cycles in the macro and in the micro.

Manage exploration versus exploitation

How to increase the number of ships?

Environment for creativity

Quantity leads to quality

Set up your environment to achieve your goals

Say YES in your 20s; say NO in your 30s.

Luck surface area

Use randomness to improve yourself

How to select the best ships?

Aim for equity

Focus on the long term
