PN: Meditation cleans up your brain

Reference: fleetingNote

Most of us entertain almost the same thoughts most of the time. Before we fall asleep we think of the same problems, worries, ideas, plans, etc. as when we wake up. Meditation allows you to break this vicious cycle.

During a usual practice, you try to focus on one thing, like your breath, emotions, sensations, mantra, etc. As distractions – i.e., thoughts other than your one thing like worries, plans, ideas, etc. – enter your mind, you accept them without judgment and immediately try to return to your point of focus.

After a while, the number of distractions lessens, and your mind becomes clearer.

When performed correctly, after the meditation, your mind is like a blank slate.

What happens is through meditation you break the chain of thoughts that may have haunted you for days and leave you with an uncluttered mind.

Here are a couple of benefits of meditation.

Firstly, you reduce the negativity in your life because the repeating and often negative thoughts and emotions subside.

Secondly, and more importantly, you acquire more mental space to fill with brand new thoughts! This in turn increases your creativity because you create an environment for serendipity.

Thirdly, related to the second point, due to a clearer mind, you gain room for reflection, which helps you increase self-awareness.

In sum, meditation is like a mind vacuum cleaner. It will leave you less stressed and with a clearer mind to fill with new and more productive thoughts. When performed consistently, meditation may lead you to a longer life (due to less stress), more creativity (due to more room for new ideas to appear and mix with each other), and a more integrated personality (due to greater introspection). In the long term, it will change you dramatically, both emotionally and rationally.
