PN: The growth mindset

Reference: fleetingNote

With a growth mindset, you will always win.

It's a perspective on life where you treat each situation as an opportunity to grow. You're welcoming feedback because it fuels your growth no matter if it's positive or negative.

Having a growth mindset changes your perspective from being goal-driven to being process-driven. The goal becomes just a means for acquiring new learnings, experiences, knowledge, perspectives, etc..

This change in perspective can help you become happier and more positive. As your main focus becomes the activity itself and not the outcome, you stop worrying about the future. You will win anyway because you will learn.

For example, if you're fired, then it's good for a couple of reasons. First of all, you were fired because of something – you can examine why and avoid it in the future. Second, you have other job opportunities you can pursue. Third, you are forced to improve your skills to attract a new employer. In other words, you're growing.

The growth mindset gives you resilience. You treat each experience as a gift and you approach reality on your own terms, proactively.

P: Attain a growth mindset by treating life as if it was a game

A useful mental model that can ease attaining a growth mindset (or positive mindset) is to treat life as a game. In this game, each life challenge is like a quest to complete. If you complete[synonym] it, you gain experience and eventually level up. The higher your level, the more exciting quests—i.e., life experiences—will be presented to you. For others, these quests are going to seem too hard; however not for you because you will have a sufficient level—i.e., your cup is big enough—to handle them.
